FAQ’s

Do we need a fishing license?

No, you do not need a license on sport fishing charters in Hawaii. However, we are required to have a commercial fishing license, and you are covered under us.

What kind of fish will I catch?

You will see a wide variety of fish species, including marlin, ahi (yellowfin tuna), ono (wahoo), and mahimahi, barracuda, and many more. There’s no telling what you might come across; that’s what makes Oahu fishing charters so much fun!

Can we keep our catch?

Yes, the crew will fillet your fish for you. Our goal is to provide your party with 40 pounds of whole fish or 20 pounds of filets. If you don’t want the fish or if there is more than you want, the crew will sell the fish for extra income. Hawaii is one of the few states where charter boats can sell their catch. Our fish policy is that we give 40 pounds of fish to the charter and sell the rest to the market. The crew’s main income is the fish; therefore, we try to catch as much fish as possible. Kindly understand that we do not cut any fish over 100 pounds as we cannot sell the fish after it has been cut. However, we do our best to catch fish for you to bring back and enjoy.

When is the best time to fish?

The best part about sport fishing charters is that the fish bite year round. Although specific fish have their high and low seasons, it’s very rare that we don’t catch anything on our fishing charters. Check out our Oahu fishing calendar for the optimal time to catch your favorite fish.

Is there a specific fishing route that we will be going on?

No. All Oahu fishing charters are different depending on weather patterns, recent catch locations, and other factors. With years of experience fishing in Hawaii, we use state-of-the-art navigational equipment as well as our knowledge of the ocean to provide you the best opportunity to catch fish.

What should I wear?

You should wear comfortable clothing. Shorts and a T-shirt are fine. You should wear rubber-soled shoes since the boat deck can get slippery. In addition, you may want to bring a jacket to protect you from the ocean spray.

Is there anything else I should bring?

We will provide all of the fishing tackle and gear on our sport fishing charters. However, you should bring sunscreen, sunglasses, medication if you’re prone to motion sickness, and food and drinks. You can also check out our What to Bring Page for other essential items to pack.
